Croatia Hotels - Hotels in Croatia
Croatia is a stunning country that is finally getting itself properly back on its feet after years of war. From its mountain ranges, down to the shimmering Dalmatian Coast, it offers more than enough beauty and culture to the average traveller, whilst the tourist infrastructure continues to improve in leaps and bounds.
After the war, Yugoslavia fell under the control of Marshal Tito (a Croat), whose Communist government in Belgrade ensured that the separate nationalities of Serbs, Croats and Muslims lived relatively peaceful, if somewhat suppressed, lives. Tito ruled with a firm grip until his death in 1980, when it was expected that Yugoslavia would finally break up. This didn't happen until over a decade later when, in 1991, nationalistic desires for independent states erupted into full-scale war. Fortunately for the Croats, their country was left relatively unscathed by war, being recognised almost immediately by the EC. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for Bosnia-Hercegovina, which now bears the scars of a nation divided. After much political chicanery, ceasefire agreements have been reached; but if recent history has taught us anything, it is that such agreements are prone to abuse.
