Cyprus Hotels - Hotels in Cyprus

Cyprus is a Mediterranean island divided into two distinguishable parts. Approximately one third of the island is to the north; known as the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The rest of the island is the Republic of Cyprus proper, and is considered the Greek part of the island. Even though there hasn't been any notable hostility between the two communities for well over a decade, there is still a considerable UN presence that serves to maintain a buffer zone between the two acrimonious communities. Because of this, travellers therefore have to decide whether they want to visit the Turkish end of the island or the Greek region. Crossing over the border can be very difficult; in fact it's almost impossible. The majority of tourists choose to go to the Greek part of Cyprus.

The Republic of Cyprus attracts a huge number of visitors in the summer, mainly because of its extraordinarily beautiful Mediterranean climate, but it also, perhaps surprisingly, manages to draw a big crowd of skiers to the Troodos mountains where it snows for a couple of months in winter. Visitors will also find a number of Byzantine churches, crusade era castles and incredible vineyards, along with the usual beach resorts that you'd expect from one of the Greek Islands.
