France Hotels - Hotels in France
The largest country in Western Europe is France, a nation rich in culture, cuisine, fine wines, architecture and history so absorbing and so diverse it is virtually impossible to experience it all in just one visit. The advent of the Channel Tunnel and the country's superb road and rail networks make travelling long distances easy and fast. Generally, if time is limited it is better to concentrate on just one or two regions and experience these in depth. However, even the briefest visit will be rewarding - it is an easy country to fall in love with.

The revolution of 1789 and the advent of Robespierre and Madame La Guillotine ended the French nation's zenith as dictator on all matters stylish and cultural.
After the revolution, a series of unsuccessful attempts to establish a lasting republic failed - the first ended up as a dictatorship, as did the second. The third attempt was quelled by the Germans in 1940, which in turn led to the establishment of the fourth after the liberation. This one was dogged by imperial strife in Indochina and Algeria, however, and it was left to de Gaulle to get the fifth off the ground in 1958. The Fifth Republic remains to this day.
