Foggia is a town in the region of Puglia in the south of Italy with a population of approximately one hundred and fifty thousand. Most of the city was destroyed by an earthquake in early eighteenth century and so the town is relatively modern. What does remain of the old town can be found around the cathedral. Called Madonna dei Sette Veli or the Lady of the seven veils, the cathedral is a funny mix of Romanesque and Baroque with a top half added after the earthquake. Much of what was important of was lost at that time but the crypt is worth a visit.
