Situated in the north of Italy between Verona and Padova, Vicenza is the industrial centre of the Veneto mainly due to its clothing and jewellery production. There is a Gold Exposition held here three times a year. The centre of the city is still historic for the most and is in part enclosed by its medieval walls. Much of the architecture of the city owes its presence to the Vicentine architects Palladio and Scamozzi of the sixteenth century. Examples of the former's work are Villa Capra or La Rotunda, Basilica Palladina and the Teatro Olimpico. Some of the Gothic buildings owe their presence to Venice during the period it ruled Vicenza.
