Fishguard is a town in the historic county of Pembrokeshire in the southwest of Wales on the coast of the Irish Sea. While the name of the town is synonymous with the Ferry that commutes between Wales and Ireland stopping in Rosslare, the actual ferry leaves from the twin town of Fishguard located a couple of kilometres west at Goodwick. The area is famous as the location of the last battle to be fought in Britain in the late seventeen hundreds. A bizarre Franco Irish attempt to conquer Britain led to an even more legendary surrender at Fishguard and the heroine of the day is Jemima Nicolas who is buried in the graveyard of the local church that is located behind the Royal Oak Inn pub where the surrender took place.
